Jefferson County is approximately 55 percent forested. Due to a large
amount of timber harvesting, and based on the need to better educate
local logging professionals about House Bill 88 and Section 208 of the
Federal Clean Water Act, The Steel Valley Loggers Chapter was founded in
1999. The group includes logging professionals representing five
counties. With the assistance of the Jefferson SWCD, DeNoon Lumber, the
Ohio Division of Forestry, and the Ohio Forestry Association, members
meet quarterly to discuss local and state forestry issues.
